I want to travel to different places around the world checking out if it is a good place for tourists to stay and finding places for tourists to stay. Is that a travel agent? maybe a branch of travel agent?

No a travel agent books flights and vacations for people. That job would be a travel reporter. Basically the glamour job of the journalism profession. I don't want to cast a negative glow on your dreams, but that is a very coveted job and since you don't age out of it, people tend to do it into their 60s.

The way to get started in that field is to get started at a smaller magazine, something like the AAA's Go. Perhaps a local newspaper. You will start with an incredibly small budget, doing a lot of small trips. Weekends to neighboring states. You will also go to many areas of the world you might not want to go. Your writing skills have to be exceptional, but it will be very controlled. You will be writing for a niche market and that might not be you. Your market might be old people with limited mobility, or families with small children. You work weekends, spend a lot researching the best hotel you can stay at for less than $60 a night. Eventually you work your way up to having some input over what you write, a higher budget and more glamorous destinations.

If you are really serious about becoming a journalist, prepare to spend a few years working your way up and not having a weekly byline.

Join your high school/college newspaper for experience. Good luck!

This could be a travel agent opportunity, meaning if you become a travel agent, you can visit these places, and do very simple one page site inspections, and all the trips would be business trips and tax deductible at the end of the year. This would be a great program for you. Please contact me at mytravelquest@comcast.net for more information or to chat.
Thanks.
