Well- a dog isn't like an i-pod that you can turn on and off. A dog needs someone to take care of him. He will need shots, and if he hasn't been already he will have to be fixed. He will need to be walked, and fed.
If you can show your parents that you are ready for the responsibility, THEN ask them- perhaps they will help you get a dog. There are no guarantees, if your parents have a reason for not wanting one. But they will be more likely to get the dog if you show you are willing to do the chores, and so on.
Good luck.

How old are you? Ask them why you can't have a dog? Is it that you have no space/room for a dog? Do they think you wouldn't care for it? Pets cost money?
Can they afford additional pet costs? There is food, vet visits for when they get sick, and there are vacine shots too.
If they think you wouldn't care for your dog, like walk the dog, pick up the poop and bathe the dog and feed the dog, you may have to show them that you are responsible to have a dog by maybe starting out with a smaller pet. LIke a gold fish and then work your way up to the bigger pet-the dog.
Also, what kind of dog do you want? A small one or a big one.
These are things you need to think about and discuss with your parents.
Good luck.

you are going to have to show you are responsible enough for the dog and that after the newness wears off, they won't be stuck taking care of the dog. Do some research on what a dog needs and let me know you know how to potty train, how much it eats, how often to walk the dog, etc. Maybe start out with a smaller pet to show you can be responsible like a fish or gerbil.

Dogs are a huge responsiblity they may not feel that you are ready for a doggy.... they probably feel that when you get bored of it and not take care of it that they dont want to feel like the ones having to take care of it... Keep in mind that dogs are expensive, the vet bills, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, if the doggy chews up anything, leashes and collars, toys and chew bones... so either get a job or something... if you arent old enough for a job then wait... go have fun with your friends not having to worry about having to take care of an animal... or see about volunteering at the local animal shelter!

I could get in trouble for this- but I always would bring the animal home when mom was home without dad. Let mom fall in love with the dog, and then shell do the talking to dad. Youve got to do research and either adopt a pup depending on how old you are. If you arent old enough to get one from the pound, find a local litter thats got to get rid of them. Not that I am saying any of this is right- it works though

tell them to give you money for your good grades and buy the dog on your own. once it comes home, just tell them how cute it is and maybe it'll grow on them. you may get in a little trouble, but the many years you spend with your dog will pay it off.

show them how much you want it... tell them you will get better grades and you want a dog for a reward, then get the good grades regardless of their answer... show you are responsible by being able to clean after your own mess too... proves to them you can actually take care of a dog.

Well you first should show them how resposable you are and how caring you are towards animals. My dog died and when my best friend got another dog my mom finally decided to get me a dog!

show them that you are responsible. if you know anyone who has a dog, ask if you could borrow their dog for a few days and try to show your parents how responsible you are. thats what i did and i ended up getting a puppy. don't ask them too much or they'll just get annoyed but show them that you want it. you could also reasearch about the dog you want and show them that you know what you are getting yourself inot
