I'm hoping there is someone out there who does. Right now we are planning to take a bus from here to there. Now how would I get from the bus station to the motel? Are there busses that run around town?

First, hopefully you will be coming in during the daytime because the bus station is not in the best areas if I remember correctly. However, there is plenty of public transportation (subway, buses) as well as taxis. You can check out the public transportation website at www.wmata.com and it will have both bus and subway routes on it.

Depending how long you are going to be in DC, there is a TON of stuff to do. First, the Smithsonian is THE place to check out. It has all the museums on the National Mall (between the US Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial) and they are all free. You can also check out the memorials, Arlington Cemetery, the Washington Monument all for free. The Washington Monument requires tickets (which are free) so there is a place nearby that gives them out. You go there early so you can get tickets to go up later in the day. There is also the National Zoo which is off of Connecticut Avenue. That is off of the red line on the Metro (subway).

There is so much to do but keep in mind that the summer is very very busy in Washington DC since most people come during that time.

May I suggest that you do not take the bus from Maine to DC. The Trailways and Greyhound stations are in very bad parts of the city. Take a train or a plane.

You would take a taxi from the station to your hotel. Stay at a hotel in downtown such as the Hotel Washington. It is reasonable priced and right in the tourist area.

There is a TourMobile sightseeing bus that you buy a 1 or 2 day ticket for and you get taken to all the major sights and you get on and off at your own pace while you see the sights. There are many of the TourMobile busses on the same circuit so there is not much of a wait for any of them when you want to get to the next sight.

There is also the subway system called Metro. It is easy to use and goes to different points in the city and the suburbs. It is safe to use but very busy during rush hours.

Plan your vacation well in advance, book your hotel well in advance, get a tour book from AAA and study what you want to see. Have an idea of what the sights mean instead of just showing up with no idea of what you are looking at.

Hello I'm from d/c. This city is geared up for tourists. I would start looking for a hotel now if you have not already. There is a very good subway system running underground which has stops at all the major sites.
There is "The Mall" area which is where most sites of interest will be. Bus systems run all around too but the Metro trains are better. Also tour buses can take you around town too. I would suggest staying in D.C. rather than VA or MD but if you have to VA hotel would be more accessible.

Bus station to motel, take a cab probably. Once you're here, getting around town is pretty easy. The Metro-rail (subway) is very good, but it does not run 24 - 7. Cabs within the city are not expensive. Lots to see and do in DC, and the Smithsonian museums are free.

buse or cabs -- just like the big city ---- You'll want to allow a lot
of time for the Smithsonian. Then within walking distance on the
mall you'll find the National Archives, short distance from there
is the white house, senate,:Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington
Memorial. Then take a step or two over to Arlington to pay respects
and visit Kennedy's eternal flame. A taxi/bus ride will get you
out to the National Zoo with the Panda's n stuff. Been a few years
since I was there last so don't remember night spots - sorry

yes, there are city buses, but the metro is the best way to get around. stay near the mall... you will not run out of things to do and eat. Nice city... enjoy.
