If you have children...Do NOT get an adult dog from the shelter or doggy pound. You don't know what it's life was like up until that point that you meet it at the shelter.
It may seem nice during the meet and greet there, but once you get it home...you don't know what might happen.
This is especially for large dogs like rotties, and the bulldog breeds, and chows, but the same goes for smaller dogs.
If you don't have children, then the choice is yours and only affects you.
Just don't bring an unknown adult doggy into a house with small kids. It's not wise at all. Even if the rescue or shelter says it's a nice dog, you just never know 100% and it's not worth risking your little ones. Get a puppy. It's a pain to train them, but worth it to have a good pet and safe kids.

First of all, KiaSister is an idiot.
Second, it's Rottweiler and Protective.
Third, no, they aren't 'naturally' mean dogs nor is it in their blood to be mean.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, any breed of dog, ANY breed, even a chihuahua or a lab is prone to attacking if it hasn't had proper training.
IF your getting a rottweiler and want it to be nice, then train it.
If you don't have the time to then you shouldn't have a dog in the first place.
EVERY rottweiler I know is very sweet, why? Because they've been trained properly. A dog with proper training will NEVER, and I mean NEVER attack you or anybody for no reason.

They are a breed of dog that is Notoriously mean. It is not that they have a bad wrap, that is just how they are. Even the best trained and treated rotwieler, can suddenly turn on their owners. There are certain breeds of dogs that will do that. What you really need to do is talk to someone who really knows dogs like the Humane society or a breeder. They can give you a good idea of what kind of dog is right for you. Whether or not a dog is going to be a good fit may depend on the situation. I had a dog breeder once tell me that Collies are great dogs, they are wonderful with children, however they are very protective of children- if they think that the parents are hurting the child they will stop the parents. Even just a raised voice to a child will make the dog protective. Sometimes, they mistake play for violence and will go after the parent. You really need to find someone who knows, someone who is impartial. Don't talk to someone who has 15 at home, they will sing the praises, talk to someone who deals with dogs everyday and can give you an impartial opinion.
I would not get a rotwieler. They are too dangerous. Many cities have outlawed them altogether. You will be responsible for any harm that your dog causes, no matter how well you train him.
One more thing, you need to learn to spell.

I recently lost my Rottweiler of old age, just over 14 yrs old. He was the best dog I have ever been around or encountered. What it comes down to is the owner and how the Rottweiler is trained, treated and raised. He did have that basis protective instinct. He would do anything to protect me and he would do anything for me. Nevertheless, he was the gentlest, kindest, nicest dog. He was good around people and children. He was as gentle and kind as a puppy the first days as he was on his final days.
As long as he knew I was OK, he was OK. He also intimidated people, so people tended not to bother him unless they knew us. One winter, I fell down on the ice and snow, and had difficulty getting up. He walked up to me, and stayed with me until I was able to stand up and get back to the house. Any time I had a problem, he knew something was wrong.
The Rottweilers has been stigmatized with stories that they are mean and dangerous. They can be trained or mistreated to be dangerous, as any dog, animal or person can be. The facts behind it are that Rottweilers are not responsible for any significantly higher proportion of dog bites than any other breed of dog. Rottweilers are not any more dangerous or mean than any other animal that is cared for and loved.
I wish you many years of happiness with your Rottweiler.

I have 2 Rottweilers, a male and a female and they are both the most loving dogs. The female is a big baby and just wants to lay around and get lovings all day long. The male is also very loving yet very protective, As long as he doesn't feel there is a threat to me he is fine with you. If he feels there is a threat to me he will slowly and calmly back the threat away from me.

I lived with a guy who had one. He trained her when she was young to a 3rd degree companion leve. She was AMAZING! Very quiet and VERY protective. I will warn you though it does take time for rotties to get used to new people. Training, treatment and care will play BIG in how the dog will be. If you pamper it and treat it like a child (let it get away with things) you will have a terror on your hands. You need to be firm and let the dog know you are boss. It's hard but it pays off. If you get one lookinto dog trainers RIGHT AWAY! Get it trained to a chain (as bad as it seems, it actually helps teach the dog respect) and always have that on when you walk it (if it's trained well you never have to use it, honestly).

all the Rottweilers that I know have been gorgeous loving dogs. They are only mean if their owners are mean or if they have been trained to be mean. they are just big and dopey. I love them. I've learned though to always do research on any pet. check them out from vets or the internet to see if it is the right dog for you.

They are just like any other animal. If you raise them to be sweet, and loving then they will be. All animals need love. Even the ones who have been taught to be mean. And any dog you train to protect you, will protect you, simple as that. They are so loyal.

Dogs are only what their owners train them to be whether it is on purpose or by mistake or abuse. Rotties are very loyal, loving pets that are wonderful family dogs if trained properly. If not, they can be your worst nightmare! It is all in the owner for how it behaves.

I've known a few rotties. They are indeed protective dogs, and do have to be well trained. But like any dog, they aren't 'mean' unless they are taught to be so.
If you get one, make sure to let him know right from the start that you're the boss.
Good luck, and enjoy your dog!
