Well, the only thing that you are going to get free is Windows Movie Maker, if you have a PC.
Other than that, you will either have to pay or get the programs in "other ways"
I have personally only paid for one program, Videowave 7 Professional.
But I have used a program called Ulead before because I got a 'hook up' and now use Adobe Premiere Pro because I downloaded the software.
You're going to have to search around a bit for a good program "hook up"
Search through Bittorrent for some programs as well.
Basically choose what program you think that you can work easy enough with and try to find a "free" version of it.
If you download the program, you'll most likely need a serial number to register it and you can find that at

There is hardly anything free anymore....

i have the same problem my windows movie maker sucks but its the easiest to work with and i cant find a good free program that i like
