Kimberlie, Revolution is one of the best drugs out there when it comes to killing a variety of parasites. It can be safely used with rare side effects. However, it is true that any heartworm preventative used in a heartworm-positive dog can cause serious health issues and, in some cases, death. That's why a heartworm blood test is necessary before you use these drugs. Before you use Revolution (or any other drug to prevent heartworm disease) have a small blood sample taken and checked for heartworm. It's easy and cheap. If it comes back negative (and it usually does) you can use Revolution without a second thought.

No reputable vet would dispense Revolution without doing a blood test to determine if the dog already has heartworm. Cough up the extra bucks and get the test done. Revolution is one of the most effective products that I have ever used.
I have never heard that it would kill an infected dog but I have been told that if heartworm is in the very early stages it will kill the infestation.
If your vet dispenses it without a blood test then go to another vet.

It is not a good idea to put your dog on a heartworm preventative if your dog is positive, it can make them ill or kill them. BUT Revolution is the ONLY heartworm preventative that is safe to use in a heartworm positive dog. Contact your vet for further help

read the borchure that comes with the revolution, I do belive it says it was tested on heartworm positive dogs. But I would call a vet and ask,,,,,,, heartworm prevention does not cure heartworm, the pet needs treated. The sooner the better.

I doubt it. But this is more a question for the vet. If you have a package, there should be something on there to indicate if it will be a problem if there are already heartworms.

Good luck!
