You've already partially answered your own question, in terms of what they wear.
Doctors wear clothing such as scrubs, gloves, masks, and goggles, to name a few.
Scrubs are actually worn for several reasons. They are comfortable and don't restrict movement, they are reversible (most doctors will wear a shirt beneath their scrubs, so the reversibility is handy because they can get two days wear out of one top, and many doctors work LONG shifts without time to shower and change), and they have pockets to put a stethoscope/pen/notepad/etc in for convenient access, on both "inside" and out. Scrub pants have a drawstring waist so they are easily adjusted, and a minimal variety of sizes of scrubs will fit many sizes of people.
Doctors wear gloves to provide protection to themselves and the patient. They are a barrier for germs and bacteria. If a doctor has germs or any dirt on their hands, the gloves will prevent it from being transmitted to the patient. If they are coming in contact with patient blood, it provides a barrier so they don't risk any sort of infection if they have an open cut. They wear masks for similar reasons, to prevent germs from being transmitted through the air. Many viruses are airborne, and this prevents the doctor from breathing it in, or passing anything they may have to the patient. Goggles are to protect their eyes, in case blood or other bodily fluids become airborne.

gloves -> in case both patient and doctor have an openned wound, gloves are used so there will be no contact.you never know if the patinet or even the doctor has a desease which can be transimtted through blood such as HIV.or all kind of skin deaseses which are contagious.
mask-> you know that when you cough or sneeze you have to cover your mouth with your hand or a handkerchief.doctors wear the mask because in case the patient has a viral problem, the microbes can easily be transmitted through air.

They wear gowns that are tight around the wrists and necks and plastic gloves - when dealing with a patient who has open wounds or is in surgery, they wear masks and somtimes goggles/glasses. While dealing with a patient who has a very dangerous disease that is easily contracted to other people, they wear suits that are like the gas-suits soliders war in the zones where toxic gasses are present or have a high probability of being - especially at the front.
All of these precautions are to prevent the spreading of the diesase/injury the patient is or may be carrying.

Emergency Room doctors wear hats, plastic safety glasses, long rubber gloves, nose and mouth cover, Scrubs, and an apron, as well as shoe covers. 1. reason is there are a long of blood diseases that are too easily to get. and 2. they need to keep the area as clean as possible so the paitent doesn't get an infection due to bacteria.
