I Just wanted to know if it is ever possible to get my cat to like water. Because some times when my cat goes out in to the woods, she can get very muddy and it isn't very efficient to clean her off with a dry towel. So thanks!

Domestic cats, just like some wild cats, are very curious about water. Some, like tigers, enjoy getting fully immersed in water. Very rarely will a domestic cat enjoy any kind of water treatment. I keep a damp towel on hand when I know my cat will be out and come back muddy. I just grab her when she comes in and wipe off the paws with the damp towel. This same cat is fascinated by the toilet and any water faucet, but loathes any actual contact with water (go figure). She's okay with being toweled off with a damp cloth, though. By the way, your cat should not ever need an actual bath, unless she/he is sprayed by a skunk or some similar horrible event. Cats clean themselves very well, thank you, and don't want any help! :)

Slowly introduce your cat to water. Instead of traumatizing it, by forcing it into a bath tub full of water, ease into the process. Everyday or so bring your cat near the water, and put a little water on it, and slowly increase the amount each day. As long as you gradually show your cat that water won't harm them, then your cat will probably become comfortable with water.

This is what I did, and now I can give my cat a bath, and he doesn't really mind it, especially on hot summer days.

Good Luck!

Both my cats don't mind water, they are long hairs, i think long hairs like water better than short hairs. When I have a bath, they are curious and they come sit on the edge, dipping their paws in the water, like they want to get in, but are testing the depth. They also come in the shower with me and drink the water while the shower is going. I have been able to pick them up in the shower and hold them without them scratching me. Also I have bought cat shampoo and had a shower with the cat, shampooed her with a detachable shower head. Just try that, they can't get out of the shower (if its an enclosed shower) so they have to deal, just make sure its not too hot or cold, and its not too different from rain. When they are outside they have to put up with rain, so why worry too much with the shower? Get them used to it, it should work. Good luck.

I only have one answer, but i believe it will work. Instead of bringing the cat to water, try bringing the water to the cat (in small cups). Sooth the water on the cat by wetting your hand and petting the cat.

Hope it works!

I had one cat who would chase the sprinkler, while another cat(both from the same litter) would damn there claw you to death if she was around water,so you have to take it case by case, what works for one cat owner , might not for another...they do make, towels similar to what we refer to as "moist towelettes"..They have similar properties, but are about 2x the size, and they are made specifically for bathing/grooming cats...I use them on mine and and they serve their purpose...You can find them at most any pet stores

Its not possible. Its an instict of their to be afraid of it. Have you ever heard of a cat not being afraid of water? If you do, please tell me. I suggest you don't let your cat out in the woods.

I heard that if you throw it in a tub of water and make it stay it lets them get used to it.
