If you want drugs, see a psychiatrist.

The critical difference between the two is that psychiatrists are MDs and psychologists are not (often PhDs), meaning that only psychiatrists can prescribe medication. In theory, you'll get equally good counseling with each, but psychiatrists -- in my experience -- are quicker to fall back on pharmacologic treatment while psychologists will try to help you work things out without drugs.

Well a psychiatrist takes care of medicine side of things and can refer you to a psychologist. They often do first line assesments in seeing what you need.

A psychologist will engage with the talking side of things.

Hope that helps.

Some mental problems are produced by a chemical imbalance of your brain and require that you take medication.
If you think something is wrong with you you go see a psychiatrist. They will diagnose your disorder and prescribe you medication to treat your condition. Psychiatrists, strictly speaking, do not give psychological therapy. By psychological treatment I mean to give you tools so that you can learn to deal with your disorder and be able to live a healthy, productive life. Some Psychiatrists undergo additional trainning to become pshycological treatment but strictly speaking they are medical doctors that will treat the medical aspects of your mental disorder. And by that I mean they will treat you with medication.

I hope that this helps you. Good luck.

I dunno . . . most psychiatrists aren't seeing many patients these days. They're prescribing meds and working with hard cases.
