If you are talking historicaly the answer is never.
There has never been a world wide flood. At least not that we have any evidance of. What there have been are logalized floods.
This could be simular to Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Logic dictates there was no way Caesar could have gotten a tax out of India or China! Rather it could only mean the world as they knew it. Which was actually a very small portion of the world.
I suspect this was the case with the flood story as well!

Never. It is an allegory.
Perhaps the best theory Ive heard of is that there was a land bridge connecting Spain and african, and that the entire Mediterrenian Sea was actually a huge valley at the time. A massive earthquake rocked the area and split open the Straits of gibraltar, causing the valley to fill quickly, and making it appear to the residents in that area as if the entire world was being inundated with water. Alas, it was only a regional flood. Not global.

We now know for certain that there is a 0% chance that a global flood occurred. There would evidence, everywhere in fact, there is none anywhere.
Besides this, which is undebatable. The amount of water it would take to flood the earth above the himalayas would have made it toxic to breath, one would have literally drowned just by breathing the air.

It depends on which flood you're talking about and from which angle you're looking at it from. If you're looking at it from a religious/biblical point of view, then look in the bible. If you're researching the commonality of flood myths throughout early civilizations you should research it historically and I think there's a book called Noah's Flood that discusses that topic.
