It doesn't matter, really. I personally believe that it's okay to have a boyfriend at 11. 11-year-olds are on the brink of teenage-dom and will soon be thrust into a vicious world that they aren't going to be ready for. At 11, boyfriends are really just close friends who happen to be male. It isn't like anything could happen, and therefore preteen dating is, for lack of a better way to put it, practicing for dating in their teen years. I find no problem, so long as they don't go real far with it.
Also, tell your sister that it is absolutely fine to be without a boyfriend. She doesn't HAVE to have one. I spent the majority of my 11th year without a boyfriend, and became so desperate I went out with a NAZI! It's a long story, but I realized then that it's okay if your friends have boyfriends and she doesn't, especially if she's pretty and smart. Most likely, guys are intimidated by her, and probably worship shrines of her when they go home. (Joke. Sort of.) Tell her to wait for the guy she's comfortable with. At any age, boyfriends should be for fun, not popularity or anything else.

When my sister was 11 (she's now 13) she felt the exact same way. Personally, i think that having "boyfriends" or "girlfriends" at 11 is just ridiculous. I can't believe how many parents are ok with that.
Tell your sister she is smart and beautiful and way too young for a boyfriend. Get her involved in something like a sport or a club at school. She should try new things and make new friends not worry about boyfriends.
I signed my sister up for volleyball and she loved it. Be a good big sister and support her in making good decisions. Boys for friends are ok, but until she's 15 or 16 I don't even think she should be thinking about having a boyfriend.

They should learn from there mistakes whatever they do it's the kids choice. Sooner or later they will find out that they were right or wrong.Yes it is a young age but it is also only 2 years from being a teen, there going to have a boyfriend eventually and if they start at the age 11 I personally think they will know better amd they will know how to watch after themselves. And you will be there to tell them I told u so! ;) lol

11 is way to young. I have a 10 year old. You all are too young to even be on here. You aren't even suppose to be on here if you are under 16. It doesn't matter how pretty she is. It is too much for children to be trying to find out things too soon. Trust me, it's no mystery. Focus on playing, being a child. You will be older one day and wish that you were a kid to take back wishing for a boyfriend. There is no point in rushing. Once you get to be older, the only thing you come to find out, is that guys are more immature than you, all they care about is themselves. Wait till you are older to worry about boys. They aren't the end of the world if you don't have them. However, they can end yours. Take the shooting today at a school. A 17 year old boy wanted to get back together with his 17 year old girlfriend. She must have said "no" so guess what???? He SHOT her FOUR times, then KILLED himself. Look it up. It happened TODAY!!! Be thankful for being a child, and be a child. Trust NO one and get an education so that way you can survive this cruel old world.

It's okay for an 11-year-old to have friends that are boys, but it's defintitely too young to have a boyfriend, no matter how smart and pretty she is. Beware of wanting a boyfriend just because everyone else has one. Your sister should take a few more years to get to know herrself, her interests and who she is. By age 16, hormones are not completely out of whack. That's a good age to start having a serious boyfriend, but only if your parents approve of him.

Well having a 17 year old sister absolutely not. She is 11 years old. I did not start dating until I was 18. And I am glad I waited. I have people I went to high school with and they have 3 kids by 3 different men. Children of today are growing up so fast. They know things early now. I would not let it happen if I was you. My sister tried to have a boyfriend at 14 and my mom caught them trying to do something and my mom flipped and I could not believe it. But my sis did not know enuf about sex to realize what was going on. But lucky my mom caught it and her virginity was spared. When i was her age I was playing with the barbie with her.........so no that is not appropriate

Yes, she is to young for a boyfriend. Tell her that she has plenty of life left to think about boys. As for her friends, they could possibly end up pregnant at a young age and the rest of their life could be ruined. She should relax and enjoy being 11. Before long, she'll be old like me,..lol... and wish that she could be 11 again.

I think so. Are you sure if she is lonely or bored? Or maybe she feels left out because "everyone else is doing it"???? That just shows she has low self-esteem and that's even worse. Even if your sis MAY feel lonely, having a bf doesn't really solve that. She probably needs something to do with her time. Plus, 11 year old boys don't really come off as boyfriend material to me.

11 is too young!!!
I don't see anything wrong for a GROUP of young people to be together at a movie or a place to eat, as a group! I do think that adults should know where they are, though.
Single dating??? NO WAY!!!

I think as 11 year olds they can think a boy or girl whatever the case may be and they decide its their boyfriend. As far as a real boyfriend they are too young.I would never let my 11 year old have a boyfriend.I am ready to lock my 3 DD's up since they are all teens.Putting bars on the windows and alarms on all doors.
