This is wonderful!!!! Congrats!!!!!!
Like with every job you need to start out with good utensils. Pots, pans, and things that help you in your job.
Go to the Goodwill store or the Salvation Army and get yourself some cheap electric appliances to start out with.
Get one or two really good knives.
They let you try out these appliances, so you know they work before you take them home.
Next you need a good selection of spices and condiments and some staples, like flour, sugar, salt and pepper.
Next, I would go into a used book store and get a good selection of easy to read cookbooks. Nothing gourmet yet.
Learn what it means to chop, dice, julienne, saute, broil, bake, stew ect.
It's not rocket science, but it does take a good amount of time to prepare a healthy meal.
You will be so happy you tried.
Best wishes

First of all you need to decide what you want to cook. Why? Ingredients, because if you can't decide what you want to cook, then you don't know what the ingredients that you will need. Because some of the ingredients you will need might not be available in your area or local grocery store.
Second, where will you be cooking at? Home, friend's house or a relative's house? The convenience of cooking is all about where you cook. Which going to the third item...
Third, your cooking utensil. Why? Because cooking is not just cooking. What type of utensil or cookingware that are available to you. Because cooking on a gas stove is certainly different than cooking on an electric stove. Primarily cooking with a gas stove will give you equal heat throughout your cooking ware than you do cooking with an electric stove. However, electric stove are most available around you than gas stove.

Brown and fry in a pan , rinse with water in a strainer
Take a small can of tomato paste put in a bowl and stir in about 1 1/2 cups of water. pour into pan ontop of meatballs.
Season with onion powder, garlic powder and pepper

Go buy a Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. It will tell you how to do everything from boil an egg to more complicated recipes. It will be a cookbook you will use over and over, with lots of ideas, resources and measurements, substitutions, and of course recipes...
