Yes, to specialize in oncology and treat those that have cancer, you would need to first get your bachelor's degree while taking your pre-med courses -- sciences such as biology, chem, biochem, physics and math courses such as trig and calculus among other prerequisites. (And one has to actually complete medical school before specializing as someone else mentioned.) Before taking your pre-med courses, you should pick out at least a few different schools (perhaps even like a dozen?) and find out what that particular medical school requires you to have as the prerequisites to even be considered as a medical student there.

Medical school is supposed to be extremely competitive, and one doesn't necessarily have to do everything at once. If it takes a person longer than 4 years to get thru university even before medical school, it's ok. As long as one gets terrific grades and I'm sure that the colleges look at volunteer work and extracurricular activities and have some great (non-family) references/letters of recommendation. Good luck doc ;)

stick on your dream! My dad has maximum cancers and we began out with a universal oncologist. After some twelve months it grew to alter into very obvious from our very own study and from listening to human beings in our help group that our well being care provider became into not staying on the cutting fringe of treating my dad's maximum cancers. We transferred to a consultant and have been lots happier! all of us recognize its made a huge distinction going to somebody that focuses purely on the blood cancers. in case you pick to stay in a small city, there would not be a huge call for for somebody so rather expert yet once you intend to stay in a huge city with good hospitals you will easily be in call for.
