Piercing guns cannot be properly sterilized and are rarely cleaned with anything other than rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol kills very few germs and still puts client at risk for getting diseases. They are also highly inaccurate
The people using the guns usually have no more than 30 minutes of training. Which is not enough time to realize the damage that can be done and they are never informed of proper aftercare instructions.
The jewelry used with piercing guns is blunt. Instead of piercing the tissue with a clean cut, it TEARS and causes unnecessary pain, scarring and problems with healing. The studs are too small in gauge and length and do not allow room for swelling, for proper healing and cleaning of the piercing. When used in cartilage, the studs can shatter and break the layers of cartilage in the ear putting you at risk for unnecessary scarring and tissue collapse.

The gun just smashes right through your body and pushes your skin aside. Which is why most peope develope bumps on the backside of their piercing done with a gun. Where as a needle is hollow. So if you were to get something pierced at lets say 14g you wouldn't have all the skin pushed to the back of the hole. Even on a typical ear piercing (Which is usually from 20g to 18g.) there's enough skin being pushed back to cause a bump. They're ugly, and sometimes they only become smaller, but never go away. :(
Also... Piercing guns can't be properly steralized. They have too many nooks and crannies that can hold and harvest bacteria/blood. If you got your ears pierced at a store in the mall they'd use the same gun, with different earrings, as they would with the person who just got their ears pierced before you. If that person has AIDS or a disease, you'd now have it because your open wound (new piercing) would have touched where theirs just did.
At the places in the mall that use guns, if you watch them, they just wipe the clearly visable spots with a pad with alcohol on it. That's not nearly steralized enough for me to use. Lol.
They can also cause your cartilidge to fall (That's not the word I'm look for, I just can't think of the one I want... OH COLAPSE!) I'm just not sure how exactly. I remember reading something about it on a piercing forum but I don't remember in detail.
Excuse my typos and spelling errors. I had a long day. :P

basically. when you sterilize the piercing needles you use an autoclave. Because the autoclave gets so hot if you were to put the gun in there it would not clean very well and possibly melt the gun. hope that helped.

i was 10 when i got my ears pierced. i went to an expensive makeup store in the mall to get it done because i did it with my best friend whose mom was very overprotective so she spent days looking for the "best " place to do it. halfway through the first ear, the gun jammed. they had to stop, unhook the earring that was half in my ear from the gun, and start over.

PEIRCING GUNS TAKE A CHUNK OF SKIN OUT OF YOUR EARS, WHEREAS NEEDLES JUST PUSH THE SKIN OUTSIDE.PEIRCINGS WITH GUNS TEND TO STRETCH AND BECOME ALL BAD AND STUFF!
