The lottery would be just like the Mega lottery. The cost for a ticket would still be just a dollar and the jackpot amount would be 1 Million dollars- after taxes. The drawing could be on the first of the month and any profits/interest would go to pay off the deficit- over time of course.

The national deficit is created as a result of spending of our money that goes outside the United States like when we buy goods from China or spend to keep our troops in other countries. A 1 dollar tcket pruchase on April 15th by all could help pay off the deficit.

No. I think lotteries are a bad idea myself. The people who play them are usually those who can least afford to yet are looking for that rare long-shot chance of getting rich. From what I've heard, most winners end up poor again within a few years anyways.

I would but I don't think it would work. As another person commented, Congress would pre-emptively spend the money on projects. I think there's a huge amount of money already outstanding for the war that hasn't been figured into the budget because it's considered "emergency" spending.

What would work better, in my opinion, is to have certain amounts designated to certain things. For instance, have all the money collected from the estate tax paid into Social Security or paying down the debt. But that would require a law and I don't know how much support such a law would receive.

The federal budget deficit is the gap between what taxes bring in and what Congress pays out - it's not the trade deficit (our trade with China).

I think we should just have war bonds, like they had before, to help pay for the war. Specific monies for that specific purpose.

However this deficit came about I would participate in a Deficit Lottery as our country and my family could use the money.

Good idea. Even once a year you could earmark some of your tax refund. You could have lots of 1 mil winners and that would make it even more popular. The Govt could keep, say , half the receipts. The only problem is congress would just spend more in anticipation of the additional revenue.

A lottery is voluntary taxation. I don't pay taxes unless I have to. As for a deficit - just whose deficit are we talking about?

No the federal government should spend less and pay off the debt with the trillions we already send them.

No. The poor already have enough taxes and that is all the lottery is.
