Yes, it's possible.
All branches of the US armed forces allow non-citizens to serve. However, you must be a legal permanent resident of the United States. You will also be excluded from some jobs and certain clearances will not be given to you.
By the way, if you're a non-citizen serving in the armed forces, it helps you get your citizenship faster!

You will be welcomed with open arms in the military service. More immigrants should make their presence known to the military. I believe this is an excellant way for immigrants to earn their right to citizenship.
You will be amazed at how many foriegn born military personnel we actually have in the US military. Good luck and God Bless !

Legal immigrants (even those not awaiting citizenship) can serve in the military, and they can also gain clearances, Mrs. jvb. They still submit to the same background check & screening. A denial of clearance is not based upon citizenship status.

You need an I55 card or an overstamped passport saying that you've applied for citizenship and the date on the passport hasn't expired. Other documents can be accepted, eg. applied for documentation from INS. Check with a recruiter, they will give you the complete list.

Legal permanent Residents with a Green card may enlist, but they may not get a Clearance(you must be a citizen for that), so some jobs will not be open to you.
