Yes. My boyfriend received a sword in Japan while he was visiting his Father. He had to be interviewed first by the seller because the sword was registered as authentic and recorded in some special book. After the interview, (and approx. $2,000 U.S. dollars with a certificate of authenticity) he had it professionally packed in a wooden box to ship back to the U.S. It is a pretty amazing sword, but he keeps it in his gun safe so it does not get stolen. The sword came from Akita, Japan. If I were you, I would not rely on any on-line seller. If you are truly interested, you must be interviewed and Japan must approve the sale. Also, he was detained for a few minutes in Customs on the way home, so you must show proof of authentic sale (this is given to you by the seller). Good luck!

Genuine usable Samurai sword that is mass made and less 50 years old? Online, but be prepare to spend almost 1,000 USD or probably more.

Genuine ancient katana that was made for samurai... Good luck with that one, I'm not even gonna to start try tell you how to obtain something that you don't even have moneys or the time for. If you do and you're serious about it, you should already know the answer for this question.

To give answer out to some random rich people who plan on buy a important antique only to use it to show off at some party then leave it sit in closet to collect dust without any feeling doesn't deserve a such thing.

Oh and as for Jacqueline's answer, it sound like her bf got ripped off if they actually think it's a real sword that samurai once used. It's most likely a sword that was made way after samurai was disbanded.

As for rest, I don't believe anyone here really have a genuine samurai sword that was once made and used by samurai.

Oh and before all of you start to come and try to cry to me, mail me pics and all details and I'll apologize. However if you don't want your heart break, keep your mouth shut! Because there's EXTREMELY SLIM chance to own a actual samurai sword that was made for and used by samurai. Especially if you live outside of Japan.

well if you want genuine as in fully functional able to use in martial arts, ebay is where to look. There are some things you need to know first about the katana. A good swords should be full tang which means the blade metal will go all the way down the handle and is secured by one or two pegs. And the metal cannot be stainless steel. The usual ones are carbon steel. Folded blades are better than nonones. Also it has to be hand forged and made. If you want the sword for kata use you can get it dull but if you want to use it for tameshigiri you need to get it sharpened. Look for the big brands like hanwei (paul chen), masahiro, and others.

Hi there.

There are loads of sites on line you could try. One i have used before is sword store.com. However been warned the more folds the blade has the greater the cost. For a half decent one you are looking at £600 upwards. If you want a genuine one from the edo or sangoku period better sell your house and everything you own. ;)

Well I have one but it was given to me by my Kendo master as a gift.I beleve it was imported from japan. As for buying one that may be some what hard. Imports may be the best way to get a genuine Katana but it will cost a lot. That may be the only way to get one but if you are lucky you may find one. Keep looking and good luck!!

I am going with the ebay option again - if a story is attached the price rises, but that relates more to the seller than the buyer I suppose

modern mass produced replica's (the kind you can buy for 1000 dollar) are, in comparison, rubish. They offer no surplus to any other piece of sharpened steel. You'ld be buying a fantasy.

Anyway, here's a link about modern japanese swords.
