Why is it that when you get a question like this , you get all these try hards saying oh what a dumb question ect . Maybe you need to listen to what the rest of the world is saying about you for once and stop being so insular .

Tell us what country your from and then we can answer you. America is a Christian Nation and evidently your not familiar with our Country. Too bad so many foreigners only see the bad. Every country in the world has the good and the bad. But un-fortunately, people from other countries see the negative first, instead of the positive of this Great Nation. Negative thinking is so destructive. It would be so interesting to find out where your from. Looks like your a believer in Propaganda, but until you really know, try not to add fuel to the fire.

Claims that America was founded as a Christian Nation, or even that America was founded on Christian Principals is revisionist history. It belongs right up there with claims that the Holocaust didn't really happen.

Many of the founders were religious or spiritual in one sense or another, but they were not Christians, and certainly not Christians by the standards set today by the Christian Right.

Thomas Paine, who inspired the American Revolution, was an atheist. The Treaty of Tripoli signed by John Adams explicitly states that The United States is NOT a Christian nation.

And I quote from Article 11 - "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..."

"The Jefferson Bible" was an attempt by Thomas Jefferson to extract the moral teachings of Jesus from the miracles and supernatural nonsense in which he did not believe.

It's not, America was founded on the principle that a higher power other than man gave you unalienable rights. At least, this is what it says in the Declaration of Independence. Our forefathers would have never have created the establishment clause in the First Amendment if it was, the government cannot establish a religion. They believed that everyone should be able to warship the way that they saw fit without fear of persecution from the government.

We're a Christian nation in the sense that most people in this country are Christians. But that does NOT mean that we should be making laws based on the Bible or shoving Christianity into all sorts of other places where it doesn't belong. That is the exact opposite of what the founding fathers of this country wanted.

It's only a Christian nation in terms of the fact that most Americans are Christians. However our prinicples and laws are based on Secularism. Christianity may be the main religion here in terms of followers but it's not the only religion that is practiced.

America is made up of many people... what they mean to say, is that the founding fathers of this country, were believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God that came from heaven to earth in the form of man, that was called Jesus. This is what they are talking about. And the majority of people in this country are Christians. If it were not for that fact ... this country would have fallen along time ago. Its the God fearing people who pray for America, that keeps God from destroying her. Even though America is full of pagans, atheist and all sorts of strange religions, its the Christians that are here, that God blesses this country.

Because they're ignorant and the founding fathers already stated they are not a Christian country

Why do you think our forefathers separated Church and State?

Washington's administration even negotiated a treaty with the Muslim rulers of north Africa that stated explicitly that the United States was not founded on Christianity. The pact, known as the Treaty with Tripoli, was approved unanimously by the Senate in 1797, under the administration of John Adams. Article 11 of the treaty states, "[T]he government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…."

From the Treaty of Tripoli
ARTICLE 11.
As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion ........................

It matters not what the Christian revisionist of today say. The US never was founded as a Christian Nation, still isn't one.

The US is not a theocracy.

The US not being a Christian nation has nothing to do with not showing it. It has to do with us NOT BEING a Christian nation. There is a clear separation of Church and State written into our laws.

However, we do choose to ignore it, many pretend we are a Christian nation. God knows G-Bush does. And it's pretty disgusting, since we are supposedly the melting pot of the world where everyone is welcome.
