can I give aspirin (low dose) or part of one to an old arthritic cat?

Hi there, I just wanted to say that you shouldn't medicate a pet without consulting a vet ever. Ketamin is fine for horses, but does terrible things to humans. The same rule really applies with everything. Human meds aren't for animals, and animal meds aren't for humans. Maybe sometimes vets prescribe human pills for pets, but I wouldn't self prescribe anything for your beloved pet, the guilt if something went wrong would be terrible.

Good luck, and I say take kitty to the vet, he'll appreciate you more for it I imagine.

uhmmmm.... the use of aspirin for cat pain is still very controversial... but my vet once prescribed 1/2 of children's aspirin (Aspilet) when my cat was in pain. He did tell me that aspirin is generaly not good for cats becuase it impacts their kidneys adversely. But once in a bue moon to an otherwise very healthy cat will not impact him adversely. My concern is that your cat may be too old now to overcome any negative aspect of aspirin. Besides, arthritis involves infalmmation and aspirin is not the drug to treat that kind of pain. I think a heating pad or heat pack will be a better option for easing arthritic issues in your cat at home.

Aspirin can be very dangerous for cats. Try 30 mg of CQ 10, but I would talk to a vet first.

No you cannot give aspirin to a cat!!! IT will damage their liver. There is medication that you can get from the vet for arthritis in cats.

No! Cats cannot tolerate aspirin! Try mixing a Glucosamine product ( like Missing Link w/Glucosamine) in with her cat food.

Cats can die from aspirin, don't ever give an aspirin to a cat. Call a veterinarian and ask if you could give it a partial Tylenol instead. But, please, talk to someone who really knows for sure.

NO. Aspirin is very lethal to cats. I suggest trying a joint supplement instead, such as MSM. Visit your local pet store, they should have supplements you give your pets in their feed.

No, human medication is not suitable for cats. You should get something from the vet. I did a veterinary nursing course, we were told not to ever do that.

I wouldn't suggest it without the advice of a vet.

Aspirin acts as a blood thinner and could make any underlying condition your cat has worse.
