...weren't the original Semites Black? Assuming that the answer is 'yes', wasn't Moses Black also....Wasn't this Black man, this Moses, the giver of Hebrew Law?

(Having a little difficulty distinguishing between anti-Black (racism) and "anti-semitsm". Don't they both mean practically the same thing?)

Except for the first answer, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. It is refreshing -- but no one answered regarding Moses. Wasn't he Black? and wasn't he the giver of Hebrew Law?

If the blacks are semites, obviously they are included.

I've never picked up anything in the Biblle that said what color Moses was. Most likely tan since that is the color of most of the inhabitants of the Middle East. Yes, they probably do mean much the same thing, although, in more recent times, anti-semitism has come to be more associated with prejudice against the Jewish people. I do believe that literally it means prejudice against the Arabic cultures.

Semitism is a word that relates to the Jewish faith. So those who oppressed moses and his people were defiantly Anti-semites regardless of race.

Anti-Semitism is not the same as Racism, although it is just as stupid. Judaism is not a race, it is a religion; but it should be respected the same way that all religions are respected. With Honor, class and dignity.

We also have to remember that racism does not only pertain to "Anti-Black." A black person that hates white people (i.e. Louis Farrakhan) is a racist. A Hispanic person that hates Asians is a racist; and this standard applies all across the board.

Be not blinded by a one-sided standard that society tries to define for you. Open your eyes and decide for yourself.

Um. No, they don't mean the same thing. Anti-semitism means against Jews, which can be of any race. Racism means against people of a certain race.

You can convert to Judaism. It is not a definite race.

What you're saying has twisted logic. It's like saying "All lions have tongues, and therefore all animals with tongues are lions."

"Semite", in this context, refers solely to Jews, not to other Semitic peoples. It might not make sense etymologically, but historically it's the way the word has always been used.

rare, all people were originally "black", in Africa. (And originally "white" before that, when hair still covered their bodies and melanization hadn't become necessary.) What matters isn't what they looked like "originally", but their racial makeup today. Otherwise being racist against any group would consist of being racist against black people, and against white people!

Sam is also incorrect, above. Antisemitism can either consist of discrimination against the Jewish religion, or the Jewish race/ethnicity. So you don't have to be a practicing Jew to have someone be an Antisemite against you.

Semite has nothing to do with race. A Semite speaks a Semitic language such as Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, and many many more, all of which are found in the Middle East. Arabs are Semites -- they speak Semitic languages.

If moses was black, why did his brother and sister have a problem with him having a black wife?

Numbers 12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

Sorry but your premise doesn't add up.

prophet Nuh(pbuh) had three sons: sam, Ham and Yafith.
from sam came the ppl of the middle east, north africa, the romans,... sons of Ham(he was the black son) are the black ppl of the rest of africa, and sons of yafith r the asian race and the far east.
and Moses (pbuh) belonged to the semitec race although he had a very dark skin, like some of the arabs and sons of Israel "Jacob(pbuh)".
and in that sense we are all brothers and cousins!
also its very stupid to say that arabs r anti_semitic as they are semitic!!
