They won't learn until you let them spill it a few times. Honestly, I know you're worried about a mess and waste, but I know eight year olds who can't pour milk without spilling because their parents never let them try.

My three year old though, we started asking him to pour his own when the pitcher was almost empty, and just help when it's too heavy for him to pour. We also have a small pitcher that we got from tupperware's kid section, that he had a lot of practice with.

Also practice in the tub! Good time, and all practice will lead up to good pouring techniques ;-)

I'm a preschool teacher and we let the children pour their own glass of milk out of smaller size pitchers than adults use, and the pitchers are not full. The children do well with this, and when they don't, MY four year old has taught me to say "We all make mistakes." It also teaches your child how to clean up his/her own messes when it happens! :)

They learn the same way as pouring water from a jug - with lots of practise and a bit of mess and with Mum standing there supervising and praising!!

start off with some water, then go to milk when she has ''mastered'' it :). can even save the milk jug after the milk is gone, and fill it with water so its pretty much the same.
