are we always making personal judgments? I understand that Jesus has the final say in our lives as to where our soul ends up. While we are on earth, we are constantly judging each other even though I keep hearing here that we are not to judge anyone. Only to love our neighbors and our enemies. But get real people, we are always making some sort of judgment on family, friends and strangers. We make a judgment when we read about Pres Bush and the war, we make a judgment when we heard about Anna Nicole Smith's death, we make a judgment when we hear about a mother drowning her children in their bathtub, we make a judgment when we hear about Saddam's hanging...... Whenever we hear or read news, we make a judgment, When we hear our 15 yr cousin got pregnant, or when our neighbor's 17 yr son got arrested for drinking and driving, etc. Please be honest people. We do make quick and sometimes rash judgments. Is this what Jesus was talking about or was He talking about criminal judgment?

People often misunderstand the point of judging. First, the Christian is admonished to judge. But judge who? To judge those who CALL themselves Christian, but have no fruit of the Spirit. When it says that we are to "judge not" the actual translation of the Greek is to "condemn to hell". That, of course, is not our job. Corinthians makes it clear that we to judge those inside the church and leave those who are outside to God. Which, btw, is opposite in Islam.

He was talking about personal judgments towards your fellow man. Some people are hypocrites and can't follow or simply choose to ignore certain things. If you go to the book of Matthew and go to chapter 7 verses 1-5 you will see what he's talking about.

People have opinions. They aren't necessarily judgements. Who is anybody to make a judgement? Unless the person is an authority about what they are commenting on, then it's not a judgement, it's only an opinion.

But if you look at someone and put them down for who they are, and you feel you are better than they are, then that is a judgement.

He says "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "

This means: If you judge, you too will be judged. Further, how you judge, that is how you will be judged.

He isn't saying : Do not judge. He is saying judge wisely, because you will be judged the same way you make judgements. Since most people cannot be fair or may make "bad" judgements, it is better for most people not to judge (in general).

You have judgment confused with discernment. God gives us the ability to be accurate in reading character or motives. We can correct people without being judgmental.

In you last sentence you came close to the answer. Claiming that an orange is an orange is a judgement. We are to persue knowledge and make judgements on what we see and here. TV makes judgements for us and that is different. They like to put a twist to everything.

To be more Christlike we should not judge each other but love one another but we are mere humans with all the human frailties. If we were able to over come them all on our own Jesus would not have had to come and die for our sins.

Your right---it is human nature to judge--we all do it constantly..However it's very irksome when we witness so-called Christians generalizing and condemning other folk--who don't believe exactly the way that they do--to Hell.
Straight away we can tell that Christian is a fraud.

True Christians do not judge but they tell the truth and you might not like hearing the truth.
