Do you honestly mean "hoework"?
If homework...then you can talk about how it puts children in a situation to teach themselves without assistance that some may not be able to get from their parents. Talk of how it increases the percentage of students who are cheating on their work just to get a passing grade. This takes away from learning anything. Also, some families need their children to work around the house and even get a job to help care for the family. Some families don't have the money to care for their family alone, so they need their children. Students who are being forced to work outside of the home won't have the time needed to do homework. How would the teacher feel if the students brought their chores from home to school? Just imagine sitting at the teachers desk folding your laundry from home. They would HATE it.

There was some controversy about the *amount* of homework given to children and some guidelines developed, for example in a certain grade there should be no more than a certain number of hours of homework per week.

I can't give you an exact reference. The concern was that homework was stopping children from experiencing outdoor activities and sports, making them too sedentary and antisocial.

The same concern was expressed in the late 80's when a lot of Yuppie parents signed their kids up for so many classes and after-school events that they had no time to socialize and develop their own interests.

In general it's safe to say that psychologists have shown children need free time to socialize without structured activities in order to develop.

Stress!
Stress can do horrible things to you: heart problems, nervous breakdowns, eating disorders, etc if it gets that bad.
Its not really THAT bad but: kids can't socialize, too much homework means less exercise outside, less time with family to build healthy relationships, rest and relaxation to work a full day at school the next day and actually concentrate.

Homework is proven to put students in a worried state of mind over 80% of the school period. It stresses students out and should not be required, but encouraged. Suffering from this prolonged stress at such a fragile age could very well maim our personality, causing us to be pricks when we grow up....your welcome :)
