I would really like my hair just to be...wavy. But my hair is so thick that it doesn't hold curls for more than 2 hours.

please help!

layers hunny, lots and lots of layers. I have the same problem. Hot rollers are amazing! Also, start with a good shampoo. Just because it's spendy doesn't mean it's good. A great one for this hair and it's cheap is Ausie full volume. And it smells great. ONLY condition the bottom of your hair too, this keeps extra weight off the top. Before I even touch my hair to curl it I put in a good base product, moose can make it crunchy so stay away from that. Go with a volume booster, this picks is up and makes it look light. Then curl. After that use a good finishing product again stay away from things that will make it crunchy. Give that a try and if it doesn't work, hit up a local beauty shop and ask for a protein wash. It's a shampoo per-say item that works wonders.

In my opinion, do not get your hair permed...it will kill your hair. Put some rollers or curlers in when your hair is wet or put them in 2-3 hours before you go to bed and spray them with adequate amount of hairspray. This will give you curly hair. You can also try layering them...that would only make your hair wavy.

in my experience, setting hair overnight gives curls that last longer than hot curls. in your case you might want to use some hair gel (try one that won't harden) or a wax similar to matrix fliktrix right after you wash your hair, and then set it using foam rollers or rods (more comfortable to sleep on) while it's still wet. if the curls are too tight in the morning, just gently comb them out or brush them with a wire brush, and they'll loosen up into waves.

get it thinned a little and use a curling iron

maybe you should try getting it thinned out. That might help some of the weight off of it
