Would there be more peace on earth? Well.............. i think so. Most religions are all one sided. My god is the only god. Athiests truly believe there is no god. They are one sided as well. Religion forces groups to butt their heads together, never coming up with a common ground with no way to really get along as human beings. Are most religions plans to convert everyone to their beliefs and then there will be peace. Thats impossible. Why is everyone so conserned about what happens after death and are not trying to work together as human beings to take care of each other while they are still alive?

Ddcass,
I see Theology as History with a "H", as Anthropology and Sociology.
Religions IS a set of beliefs, no doubt... and also, all religions are preached, written, translated, advertised.... all the verbs you want.... by THE MEN!
Men made religion or religions if you will.

As Nieshtch would say... Is Man the greatest creation of God, or God the greatest creation of Men....

All I can say... with all my humbleness... is that we all need a projection of ourselves. Even if it has to be someone to be feared... or to justify all our limits.
We have limits because we think! Since we ourselves created the limits, we also need to creat the limit for this all righteous limit.
Some call it mankind...

Summin it up, I would say no one would live without a religion, a kind of politics, a king, a governor, a leader.... a God.

Just my opinion... And congrats for the question.

Art and culture definitely would have been much different because you have to remember events such as the Crusades, the Inquisition, various Holy Wars, and the Dark Ages would have never happened. This had a heavy impact on history. Also, the destruction and censorship of great works of art considered to be pornographic and or blasphemous, and the persecution of the artists wouldn’t have happened. Missionaries destroying (converting) cultures wouldn’t have happened. The scientific method wouldn’t have been criminalized nor ancient medical knowledge lost for a millennium. You wouldn’t have had the endemic of Bubonic plague or Syphilis. All things things had an profound effect on the culture.

Many ancient trees would have still been with us and not cut down. There would have been a lot more emphasis on Nature.

As far as the quality of art work itself being effected, if you look at the art done prior to the advent of Christianity in Europe you’ll notice it’s a much more detailed and realistic. Then look at the artwork done after Christianity came into play, it’s primitive, morbid, and degraded. The shift in subject matter from the Classical Age to the Christian Dark Age was stark. The only acceptable works of art were scenes from the Bible or those depicting great 'Christian' events. Art was debased into propaganda – anything not directly relevant to the needs of the Church was ignored.

The vast network of roads, the aqueducts, the heated public baths, indoor plumbing, glass windows and so much else invented by the Greeks and Romans simply fell into disuse when Christianity spread.

Life expectancy dropped dramatically after the spread of Christianity comparing to the Rise of The Roman Empire.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

well since the government has decided to take god out of the schools and the government. They are not allowed to salute the flag I would say the school systems are worse. So the world without religion I think would be nothing but a nightmare. i do not see religions fighting except the Jehovah's My cousin was Lutheran married a Jew. the celebrated Christmas and Hanuka. I think that shows that 2 religions can work together if they want to. Guess I am not a Bidget

Think about it!If all religeons were banned, after a while the humans would create and idol of something and worship that.Look at ancient cultures.See there always been, and will always bee religeons. But not christianity,God started it a little over 2 thousand years ago,to hopefull start bringing mankind enmass into heaven. But,it's all up to each person to agree with God,instead of satan.Jesus was,is the example sent by the heavenly Father to show how to agree,so that the devil's lies would seen for they are,if one chose to see thing's from God's perpspective! I might'av got carried away on this Q,but I hoped I helped some!

Well just look at secular, predominantly atheist countries such as Sweden, Japan, Denmark, etc. and note that they have (by far) the lowest rates of crime, rape, murder, violence, teen pregnancy, abortion, stds, divorce, etc... Also consider that non-believers make up 10-14% of the US population yet take up only 0.209% of the prison population - which is hugely disproportionate.

Every study ever conducted on the subject (even by christian research groups) has demonstrated that non-believers are the most tolerant, accepting, peaceful and educated, while religious tend to be much more dysfunctional. The world would most assuredly be a better place without religion...

I'm not an athiest, I do believe in God, but I have to say that the world might be a bit more peaceful without religion.

There would be far less peace because religion helps teach self-discipline and a good healthy fear of the afterlife. Without that, unfortunately you get more kids with no hope running into schools shooting students and teachers with no fear of the consequences that lie beyond this life.

I ask you, what good is a religion if it knows its not true? I dont want to talk to anybody who doesnt think they HAVE the truth do you?

We are concerned about the afterlife because there are significant claims that either we will be judged or saved. Me personally, Id rather be saved. And what good does this life do if it only serves to damn you in the next one?

Atheists do not hold beliefs about God/Gods, they do not truly "believe" anything about God/Gods, atheists just don't share the theists belief that there is a God or Gods.

Atheism is not a system of belief...I know it's real hard for you to understand but just try harder.

For me as an atheist it's great with no religion in my private world however I would like religious people to keep their religiosity contained, within the private sphere where it belongs.
I would never want to ban religion...but definitely keep the public sphere secular and free from conflicting religious beliefs in this otherwise multi-cultural & multi-belief society ...as much as possible.

Over time man has created many Gods for one reason or another, but mainly because he did not want to die or have the ones he loves die. He then has tried to kill those who worship the same God in a different way. Man created God. The church and God bring a positive benefit to our lives, but he only exist in out spirit and mind.

Perhaps each of the ten plagues was presented to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of each of the Egyptian ten god’s. Osiris was the Egyptian god of the Nile. The Egyptians believed that Osiris gave life and sustenance to the people because the Nile itself was the vital life-source of ancient Egypt. The first plague was Blood. The waters of the Nile turned to the symbol of death, blood. That was a sign of G-d’s superiority over Osiris.

The name of the Pharaoh at the time of the Exodus was Amenophis, more commonly called Amenhotep. His son and successor, Akenaten, did away with the Egyptian collection of gods and taught a monotheistic religion throughout the land. That God was the SUN!

I think there would be less peace because more people would be more sin-full then we are already today. But because there are some people who still go by the religious beliefs there are less crimes happening in the world today then there would be without religion.
