Fever blisters and cold sores are actually very contagious. They are actually a member of the Herpes family, Herpes Simplex 1. Hepes Simplex 2 is the sexually transmitted disease. So, someone with an active infection has kissed your child. Also, now your child can spread this to others as well, so no one can kiss the baby until the lesion has healed. I know that normal medications to help treat this are made for adults.....like Carmex, Campho Phenique, Hepicin, ect. You may want to talk to your doctor about this first before you put any medicine on your child. I wish you the best of luck.
