My ankles and feet swell terribly. If i wear a shoe with a heal and the toes are pointing slightly downward they swelll. Flat sandals with straps across the top of the foot also do it. I am a little overweight, my BP is good, I do not use salt or add salt to anything. I have had a cardio work up and that was negative. This happens most when walking a lot , especially in hot weather
So it is important to elevate the feet, have someone massage them to disperse the fluid, cool foot soaks help, lay off the soda.
Also , make sure you do not hold urine for long periods of time as this can add to the toxins that make feet swell. There are over the counter "fluid pills" but if you take these, make sure you replace your potassium by taking a supliment or eating a banana.

Its best to consult you doctor on this issue as there are a number of medical issues which could cause this such as heart faliure and venous hypertension. To relieve it in the mean time lie down with you legs higher than your heart (as much as possible)this will encourage the fluid to drain back.

Call you doctor. It could be an allergy. You could be getting too much salt in your diet. It could be your blood pressure. It could be another circulation issue. It could be lots of things! I notice that my hands and feet get a little puffy (like my rings feel snug) when I eat shrimp, I was told that I was sensitive to idodine.

You may be having congestive heart failure. Go to a doctor immediately! (It might be something less scary, but that's what needs to be found out.)
