I travel alot due to my job, so I go straight for the local beer, especially here in the states. In Europe, it depends on the country. Italy and France is wine, Spain has this really great beer called "Estrella" that is super tasty and goes great with tapas. The UK, Germany, Belgium, Eastern Europe is pretty obvious (BEER!) In Greece, it's the lovely Retsina (wine w/ a very different taste, sort of like pine tar)

that reminds me, I think it's time for a drink.

When abroad, I tend to drink the local libation. IE ... in Scotland I drink Scotch (nothing under 15 years old though) ... in Germany I drink German beer.

How else are you going to partake of the local life? And isn't that part of why you travel abroad?

Half the fun of being in a different country is to try different things than you can get at home.
