I hold Illinois insurance licenses. I want to start my own insurance agency to sell long term care, life, health and disability products.

You can go through an agency or a brokerage. It sounds like you wish to remain independent (good for you), so I'd recommend any one of the hundreds of marketing organizations your probably already receiving mail from. The main one my firm uses is Professional Planners Marketing Group.

You already have your license, that's the first part. Now, go and contact the company and tell them that you are looking forward to being an agent and ask how. I never pursued this, they (recruiters) actually just contacted me and asked me to be one of their agents (all I did was post my resume on various sites such as Monster and Hotjobs). My guess is to contact either a regional sales or recruiter for more information. Better yet, contact a current agent with questions about being an agent and they can tell you and also get a referral bonus for referring you to the recruiter (at least that's what it's like in some businesses, I know State Farm and Farmers do that).

Contact John Hancock and MetLife and tell them you'd like an agency appointment and ask what you need to do to accomplish that.

I had to go through an agency for JH. They didn't offer direct appointment.

www.insurance-forums.net can be a helpful resource. Just post your question in the agents section.
