We have a hampster that just lays there, his eyes are swollen shut and I don't have the money to take him to the vet to be put down. I don't want to keep him in my house because I don't know if he has an infectuous disease, what should I do with him? Leave him in his cage to die outside? How can I do it without killing it?

That is disgusting behavior. He is obviously in pain and very sick. How do you even know that he will have o be put down? The vet could fix him for all you know but you just don't feel like putting out the money to take him to the vet! If you didn't have enough money for vet care you should not have got a pet and I would advise you to not get another one.

Just because his eyes are swollen shut does not mean he is going to die. It means he is in a lot of pain and needs to see a vet right away. You should not leave him outside to die becuase that is horrible and also cruelty to animals. The fact that you can even think that is horrible, and shows that you should not be owning pets.

Take him to a shelter or to the vets. See if they will treat him for free and let you pay them back some other way or even just give your hamster to them and leave. At the very least they will put it down in a human way. They might even be able to help the poor thing.

Never get another pet. Someone who thinks like you should not own animals.

How cruel! I can't believe some people are suggesting you just put it in the garbage, etc.! What if it were a dog? Would you do the same?

Please call a local shelter or vet clinic and give the hamster away to them - they may even be able to save its life! It might just have an infection or something for God's sake! If you can't open your phone book and look for a shelter, go to http://www.petfinder.com/ and look for a local shelter there - just type in your information and they will let you know where shelters are by you. Call them and they will take your hamster! And please don't get another pet if you don't want to take care of it. If you are anywhere near Racine, WI - let me know - I'll take it off your hands and find help for it!

That's really sad. If you can't afford to take an animal to the vet then your not mature enough to take care of one. I hope you don't have any kids, I can only imagine what you would do if they got an eye infection. Drop if off at the SPCA. I'm sure once it gets some eye drops put in for the infection then he'll have many more months or years of life.

A lot of vets will put down animals humanely for free and animals shelters are always happy to care for sick animals.

Thhis is crummy. I feel a little for both hamster n human
Just possibly a bag full of nitrous from a whipping cream container will do it but a better idea is hamster hospice where you drug the hamster I won't presume but MJ is used as a human hospice drug

Your hamster is unlikely to have a medical MJ prescription

but if you are writing from a country where MJ is legal you could add oil to bud activate the THC with warmth then give the oil orally

The hamster might live if it is capable of getting "the munchies"

Bring him to the vet or drop him off at a humane shelter near by. They'll take him.
