Strictly speaking there are very few places as most council by-laws include provision to prohibit overnight parking on or alongside public highways. In reality there are loads of places once you get off the main roads and into the countryside. You'll generally find that the closer to built up areas you are the less suitable places you'll find. Similarly if you're close to popular tourist spots you'll likely encounter much stricter parking restrictions.

Have a look at a map and find a small dead end road and the chances are there'll be suitable places to stop overnight. Tracks leading to beaches are often a good place to stop, they're often used by fishermen and farmers so there's very little traffic on them. There's often parking provision at popular access points to the hills and during the night these places are deserted.

My advice would be to simply drive to an area and have a look around but better than that would be to ask a local resident who will probably be able to give good advice as to the best spots.

I've parked up in remote spots on a great many occasions and know of many such places in Scotland, Cumbria, Northumberland and Yorkshire. If you want some specific locations please e-mail me.

Depends how far you want to travel.... theres a few quiet places in and around Portsmouth / Hayling Island.

In Hayling Island follow the main road to the west and you'll end up in a quiet carpark surrounded by sand dunes. Theres about a 5mile stretch of sand dunes with various turn off points where you can park up

In Portsmouth theres Portsdown Hill, Southsea Common, Southsea Seafront, Old Portsmouth ..... plenty of places. Portsdown Hill is xx amount of miles long and there are loads of little carparks dotted about to park up for the night (couple with burger vans in) and a great view of the city

Hope you like if you decide to go :)

Come up to the Scottish Highlands there are lots of beautiful spots to park your camper up here. You can wake up to a stunning panorama of mountains, lochs, secluded beaches and the locals are friendly too.
