My dog is a Husky mix, but you would swear she's all Husky. Anyway, Huskies shed ALOT, and I noticed that she stopped shedding as much because of the food I gave her. Believe it or not. I bought my dog Canidae, Innova Evo, and Wellness, that are sold in independent stores. They have human grade meat, no corn, no soy, no wheat, no by-products, and no preservatives. Her coat is shiny and fluffy, and ever since I put her on that diet, I hardly see any shedding, which is great because I love to wear black. So diet can be a big reason as to why your dog sheds a lot. Also, another big reason can be the breed. Some breeds just shed more than others. Try out the diet trick and give it a month. If you notice a dramatic lack in shedding, then you know it was the diet. If you don't, than maybe it's just the breed.

Oh, and in the meantime, brush him daily to help the shedding.

Regular grooming at home, and professionally, will help keep the shedding under control. Nothing will completely eliminate shedding, though.
I'd recommend getting a professional bath and brushout (which usually includes ear cleaning and nail trimming, too) about every 6-8 weeks. You can purchase some tools to brush your dog at home at www.petedge.com
I'd recommend a rubber curry brush (such as the Zoom Groom) and perhaps investing in a tool called the Furminator. If using the Furminator, don't go over the same area more than 2-3 times using moderate pressure only.
There is also a dietary supplement called Shed Stop (or Mrs. Allen's Shed Stop) that supposedly reduces shedding a bit, too. You can find that at www.bestfriendspetcare.com and perhaps at other pet retail boutiques.
Good luck!

I am afraid that it is the season for shedding. As the weather changes the dog will shed more and more. Brush him every day and it will cut down on the hair dramatically.
You can also give him a shower with no soap every day if you like. I give Timber a water shower every day to cut down on his shedding and people's allergies in public. I invite him in at the beginning of my shower in the morning and finish my shower alone to get the hair off me.
If this is an abnormal amount of shedding for your dog, you might consider adding a fish oil supplement to his food. Talk to your vet and let them know if you think something more is going on.
Vacuuming a dog doesn't really work, though some dogs do enjoy the feeling. Groomers use vacuums while brushing to keep the hair out of the air.
If it is warm enough and not going to get cold again you can use an electric clipper to trim the hair but you can't shave it off because they need some protection against the elements.

Get a good quality brush or comb and groom him every day. Not much can be done about shedding either. It's a natural cycle for many animals. There are things out there like shampoos, pills, etc. that are "supposed" to stop the shedding. That isn't true, none of those things work, at all. So, that is just about all there is to do, comb or brush him every day.

if you go to a pet supply place they sell a liquid or pill you can give the dog the liquid is like gravy you put on the dogs food. It helps with shedding now it wont stop all of the shedding but a good amount. Or you could go get your dog a hair cut if it has long enough fur.

You cant stop him from shedding but I would suggest getting a good brush .... go to a pet supply and get a GOOD one... ask them what they recommend.. even take your dog with you....... visit a Pet Smart or Petco........ there you will find some dog brushes that really help get that loose hair off......

Shedding is natural for almost all dogs, its not something you can "stop". Brushing does help though. Most dogs are afraid of vacuums.

The obvious answer would be to take him to the groomer and have him shaved. Depending where in the world you live this might not be feasible. (sp?) Generally a puppy cut is short enough to keep shedding at a minimum.

You can't stop him from shedding, but you can take him in to get groomed and washed every once in a while (that helps).
