i moved from tennessee to california and i was driving my husband car when this police officer stopped me for having tinted windows, he asked for my driver license(i had it with me) he went back to the police car and he gave me a ticket. I was surprised that he impounded my car while I had two baby's and two other people. And im reffering to my question, that if it is legal or possible for a police officer impound your car when having an out of state driver license(that is current by the way).

i didnt leave anything of the story out in fact i was driving under the speed limit because the elementary was near. i also called the police station reporting the absurd action taken by the police officer i even told the police offiecer if i could just drop off the rest of the passengers to my house which i lived just about three blocks away and his response was "no" (there were two babys on board for God sake) i also told the officer if my husband could come and pick up the car his answer was again "no".

Based on the info your giving us, I think there is a lot more to this story than you're willing to admit. It seems odd that your car would be impounded because you have an out-of state-license.

Is your license valid, is the car properly registered and insured. I was stationed in San Diego for three years and held a drivers license from New York and never had my car impounded.

what Amanda D said is true about the times of that stuff but i dont see how they can inpound the car for that maybe cali is different but that just sounds insane that would be like driving out of state and letting the person you were visiting there drive your car and the police taking it.....sounds real krazy you should call around to lawyers and ask you can talk to the actual lawyer about it just say you were checking on a price they would charge you for taking care of it and see what they have to say you might just have to leave a message with the sectary or leave a message on voice mail but if you call a couple someone will call you back....get there opinion on it they know the laws real well there and would be able to tell you what you should or could do...good luck..

It has nothing to do w/ your drivers license. You said you got pulled over for window tint and I'm assuming it was too dark by Cali's laws. It got impounded because the tint was deemed a safety issue.

From what I heard, as long as you have two of the three things necessary from the same state, your legal. Meaning the three things being
license - registration - insurance, as long as two are from the same state, your legal. It was like that in Calif when I lived there and also SC and Fla
