I have the same phobia. One is I don't like people listening on me when I'm doing my business and two, public restrooms are full of germs such as E coli, hepatitis, STD fluids, and viruses.

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to use a public restroom, but if you have to:
A.) Buy a mini packet of leaflet hand soap
B.) Bring your own tissue or wipes if you must.
C.) If there are no toilet set covers in the restrooms, get a mini pack of disinfectant and wipe the toilet clean.
D.) Use hand sanitizer like Purell to avoid cross contamination even when opening restroom doors.

I know I sound like I have OCD, which I don't, but hey...an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure. And you can relax more knowing that you have these disinfectant products.

Some people are just shy. They feel private and comfortable at home, and feel a bit invaded in public. Like a fear of someone walking into the stall....that would be bad. But it doesn't happen much at all. Like one person said, it's probably a mild OCD or phobia. You'll probably get over it. If you don't....watch it so your bladder doesn't explode. Seriously, if you drink a lot of water or fluids (even if you don't, it gets filled) it can burst. So if you can't go in public, go frequently at home!

I have the same problem. For me I don't like to use a toilet that I don't know is clean whereas at home, I cleaned the toilet and know it's ok. Also, I can't go "number 2" in public because I don't want anyone to know I'm doing that. I don't want them to hear or smell anything. I'm afraid of embarassment like I'll walk out and someone will scream, "hey! she was poopin!!" it's weird, but some people are just that way...like me. So, don't feel alone!

I don't like using public bathrooms either. Because someone might see you through the big huge crack in the door.
I like my privacy. It's gross when their is toilet paper strung out all over the place too. I dont like sitting on the toilets either I'm afraid I'll catch some sort of disease. Unlike my bathroom at home their is no big crack in the door, and we clean our toiets and we dont leave toilet paper on the floor.

Well, if you're trying to get in after business hours, the bathrooms will be locked.

During regular hours, the store employees will usually be upset if you are trying to decorate or remodel their bathroom without their permission.

And of course, home bathrooms are not designed to be portable, so lugging that anywhere will cause problems, unless it's part of a motor home.

It's psychological. Perhaps by becoming "familiar" with one public restroom, like at school or the office, you can train yourself to relax. Otherwise you might want to seek hypnosis or other relaxation treatments as this can seriously limit your life......no traveling for example.

You should go whenever you feel the urge to. You can get yourself sick if you don't go when you need to. You are probably embarrassed. Try playing with your cell phone or bring something to browse at while using the toilet.
