Authority, it gives their words authority. The bible, since people have mentioned it here, is a highly dubious document and has a very shaky history when it comes to being an authority on anything by modern standards.
I have listened to theologians talk about seminary school. What a wake up call that was. It is a collection of texts most of which were not even written (new testament) until some three hundred years after Jesus died. Scribes even made up some of the stories to illustrate a teaching or create emphasis for a particular point. So what else did their creative touch add or delete? Also does anyone know about the King James bible? King James didn't like the translation he had done because he felt it gave women too much power. So he had those passages written out or altered! WE STILL USE THAT VERSION OF THE BIBLE AS IF IT WERE ABSOLUTE! For Gods sake people!
Please learn to think for yourselves...peace.

People answer question's wwith scripture passages from the Bible because for some question's its the best way to answer a question. Not for all question's. But for some question's most of your answer's can be found directly from the bible!!

Ya, some people just copy and paste a whole book mostly from the Koran. I guess they just want to FULLY explain what they're trying to tell you. To me, we should answer the questions from our own thoughts and words and if you want to give a scripture or a link to help clarify then that's ok. But your whole answer shouldn't be copied and pasted.

Because it is easier to quote a book than to think for yourself.
Why think when a book had done all the thinking for you?
