Heated plastics may cause cancer if you breath the fumes which they give off(plastic is generally made of petroleum)which would not normally be safe. Microwavable means you can pretty much use it in the microwave to cook with and unless you REALLY leave it in a long time on high it should be okay. So, just don't set your plastics on fire and you should be fine.

Assuming the first part of your question is true.. which is debateable, the term Microwavable means.. able to be put in the microwave and heated without destroying your microwave.

safe for microwave cooking but I always use glass

It simply means that you can microwave it, and it won't melt on you.
