I'd go with the Specialized Hardrock Disc for $500, Specialized offer a lifetime warranty on all their frames. I have a standard Hardrock Sport 04 model that is still going however I'm into more extreme stuff now on my Kona Stinky.

Check Kim's Bike Shop website ( www.kimsbikes.com)---you'll find a Schwinn Mesa for less than $200! ( w/ front suspension and disc brakes! ) ----they also have other models to select from----hope you like 'em!
