If your friend partitioned your hard drive and put 98 on it it can be deleted and the hard drive repartitioned with out losing XP , but if he reformatted the hard drive to put in 98 then alas...your Xp Os is lost and the hard drive will have to be reformatted and XP reinstalled .

You downgraded from XP to 98?! Lol! What the h3ll's wrong with you? My advice would be take this 'friend' of yours outside and beat the snot out of him for his nonsense, then never listen to his advice ever again.

Anyway, no, you're screwed. Installing Win98 on an XP machine means wiping the entire drive first (because moving from 98 to XP isn't a valid 'upgrade' path) so all traces of your previous XP install are now lost forever. To put XP back on there you need to get an XP install CD. Then you just stick it on the CD drive, switch the machine off then back on again, and just follow the instructions.

Why would anyone go back to 98???? your XP verision is probably gone and you'll have to rebuild it. I recomend that you backup anything that you want to keep and then format the drive and reload windows XP.
