If you know you said one thing and your mate tells you you said another and makes you question yourself and tells his family and friends that you made fun of him, and they treat you bad because of his insecurity and b.s., what do you do? It is not an isolated incident, it is often.

yes, all the time because I am a humble person people take advantage of me. Regardless of what you said that someone needs to get it right and respect you not talk about you and twist your words you do not need a friend like that. Find another friend.
