One suggestion: Don't watch Marathon Man tonight!

The pain varies a lot from person to person.

You'll get an injection of novocaine at the least, so the worst thing about actually getting the teeth pulled is having a dentist stick a pair of pliers in your mouth and listening to the sound of your teeth being yanked out of their sockets. He shouldn't by prying on your other teeth for leverage, either! (I heard of one dentist doing this!). It's also poor technique for him to plant his foot on the arm of the chair (some teeth wind up being very hard to get out).

It's the after effects that vary a lot. Some people have some swelling of their jaw and some people have quite a bit of soreness. Some people's teeth come out pretty easily and they have almost no pain or swelling at all.

No it doesn't hurt - the injection to numb the area will just be a quick sharp pain like when you have a blood test (except in your mouth). After having the tooth pulled you will feel weird for a few hours because the anaesthetic takes a while to wear away.

Nope, well... just a bit, they give you a shot in your gum (small needle) to make it numb, feels like a pin prick. After that they wait a few minutes, for the stuff to make effect, and they just pull out the teeth, but you don't feel a thing. It's LATER when the stuff wears off, that it MIGHT hurt a bit, but not too much. You MAY have to take a pill, maybe not... and that's about it. Don't worry!! No big deal.

You will have an injection to freeze the site where the teeth are to be pulled from. Then you will feel that area very numb, then the dentist will test the gum to see if its frozen, then he will extract your teeth ,and you wont feel anything ,please believe me as i hate going to the dentist, and when i come out i think ,was that worth getting into a state about. Good Luck.

The shot stings a bit.

After you are numb, they use a plier and just yank the tooth out. No pain. You may hear tearing of tissue and bone when they do this, as the bones conduct sounds to your ear!

And then you are done.

I would ask for a painkiller (or keep some Motrin / Ibuprofen in my pocket) and take one immediately after the extraction, so it takes effect before the Novocaine wears off.

i dont no about adult teeth being pulled out, but i think its the same procedure for regular baby teeth. i went through the same when i was little. i was nervous, cuz i hated needles-but u no wat, it doesnt hurt when ur dentist puts in the needle. ive done it for 4-6 baby teeth. he/she numbs it with the needle in the gum and if u could still feel them poking u, its not numb yet. when it is, then they get something (sry i dont no the name) and pull it out geeently. then u c the blood, they may make u rinse ur mouth and then u mite bite on gloss (its something to stop the blood)

They tell me they inject the gums with a drug to deaden the sensation and the extractions don't really hurt that bad at all.

I would imagine that you get the gas and they numb the area of your mouth and then they yank 'em out. And does it hurt? Well I bet it don't feel like hugs and kisses...
