For quite a few years now I've been seeing things. I see things every single day. Horrifyingly disfigured faces, little children, and just random "people". I only hear things on occasion and I usually can't even understand what is being said. I've brought it up to my grandmother, but she thinks I've outgrown it. What do I do?

They aren't as frightening as they used to be, but I still don't like them. Voices are nothing. Just random people that I see are fine too it's the frightening things I see that are bothering me. I can't tell a psychiatrist because my parents won't let me tell anyone anything since my brother told a couselor what was on his mind. He got sent to a mental hospital and they don't want me to go. I will get in trouble if I try to get help on my own. I'm not sure how I can do this, but I'm getting tired of not knowing the feeling of having alone time.

Dear Blistex,

If you think you have a mental problem of seeing "things" and "hearing voices be very sure they are real before you tell anyone because it could be just a vivid "dream like" state. Usually "sightings of things" and "hearing of voices" are unmistakeably from some other source than your own mind. I am quite sure any psychiatrist will consider such events the product of your own "diseased" mind. So unless they are interfering with your normal life I wouldn't tell another.

I'm thinking they are not too stressful because of the way you lucidly tell about them. Voices I have heard were so violent they forced me to the ground on my knees and were always unwelcome. Very seldom were they friendly. They seriously interfered in my life making it impossible to function normally.

Medications and loving therapy have made it so I have lived a fairly normal life. I no longer hallucinate. If they do become too stressful you should tell someone who you know will care about them. A psychiatrist can help in that case.

Good luck, good health, peace and love!

Seeing and hearing things is a sign of schizophrenia.

Yes, you need to see a doctor to find out. There are medications to treat it.
