Satan's sin was much greater than saying that he thought he was better than God. He wanted to take God's glory and rule over this world. When God rejected this plan and would not give him his glory, Satan rebelled and took 1/3 of the hosts of heaven with him.
It was not so much that God threw him out but that Satan chose to rebel. Even in this world, parents have children that choose to rebel to such a degree that the children can no longer stay in the house. It is sad, but it does happen.
Satan gained his intelligence from the same source that we all did. We are all children of God, created in His image. Satan was one of God's creations. But when he rebelled and refused to turn from his wicked ways, he was cast out.

He thought that he wanted to be in charge. He is not equal to God, yet he thought he could rise up and become equal. God didn't cast him into hell... yet. He just cast him out of heaven. Satan is the ruler of this world for the time being. After the final judgement, Satan and all those who chose to follow him will be cast into the lake of fire.

Lucifer exalted himself above God, usurping Gods identity. There was iniquity (idolatry, etc.) found out in his dealings. God made him perfect and a winged cheribim. But Lucifer means bright boasting (Hebrew Hallal), but Lucifer isn't Lucifer anymore, but the fallen star.
Personally, I don't think the Red Dragen (Satan, Serpent) is exactly Lucifer. Lucifer is a fallen Angel (winged Cherabim). The Big Red dragon deceived 1/3 of the Angels to turn against God.
Also, The spiritual red dragon is the serpents inspiration. Adam (man & woman) was already made in the Image of God. They were denied the tree of life once they ate of the tree of knowledge of good & evil. They died spiritually. Man is body, soul & spirit. Also, within 1000 yrs they died physically also. A day is like a 1000 yrs to God and 1000yrs like a day.
The main devil isn't in hell yet. There are some devils in hell though, persecuting people that go there. Satan is in the abyss for the millinium reign of Christ. Then he gets thrown into the lake of fire.
The mormon believe that Jesus is a spirit child of Father God and brother to lucifer is a false belief. It is clearly written in the Holy Bible that Lucifer was a winged Cherabim and created by God. Jesus Christ is the Word of God who came down from heaven. God is Father, Word & Holy Spirit. That is the Christian belief. Jesus Christ is the Bread from heaven (Word of God) and also put on humanity and did defeat deaths hold though, by being without sin and dieing because of our sin, so being sinless overcame death & raised from the dead. But God (the Word of God the Creator) came from heaven to earth. Jesus created Lucifer also. Without the Word of God, nothing would be created that was created.

In the LDS church we have knowledge of the Pre-mortal existence which tells us of our purpose here on earth, called "the plan of salvation." When our Heavenly Father proposed this plan, he required a Savior who would come to earth and take upon him the sins of the world and then break the bands of death through ressurection. Heavenly Father bestowed this position on his eldest son, Jesus Christ. He also said that the determining factor of wether we would get back to heaven or not, is if we would go down to earth, recieve a body (we were simply spirits in the pre-mortal existence) and then prove to God if we would be faithful in all that he asks of us.
Lucifer however did not like this plan because there was a chance you would not make it back to heaven. So he proposed his own plan where we would all go to earth and have no free agency (or ability to choose) and simply do only good things. He continued to say that this plan would bring glory to him and put him better than our Father in Heaven.
His plan was enticing to many, in fact 1/3 the host of heaven decieded to follow Lucifer's plan. Our Heavenly Father then banished all those who were his followers from his presence and Lucifer then fell and became Satan. All his followers are his fallen angels. And these fallen angels, along with Satan are the source of all temptation on this earth.

God hasn't cast him into hell.. His sin SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Isaiah 14:12-14
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
He has been repeating this same lie to many since... Jim

MT 24:4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, `I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Read Milton's "Paradise Lost", because the story of Lucifer getting kicked out of heaven sure isn't in the Bible. (There's one passage in the book of Isiah that compares a king to the descending "morning star", meaning Venus in the night sky, which wasn't "Lucifer" until the KJV came out. But that's it.) Another great fictional work on the story is Neil Gaiman's "Murder Mysteries".

i assume devil and God are in simple terms like the Republicans and Democrats. They never particularly replace the prestige quo because of the fact they proportion complete administration and don't pick to lose a sturdy element.
