why when you put forward the case for a possible existance of god do many atheists true to disprove them by attacking ancient books and religions.
i have no religion or holy book. but look for truth in the real world.
i look towards evolution and think this is more likely to support the existance of god then denounce it. likewise with all science.
so to the athiests that do it stop assuming everyone that talks about god are christians or connected to one of the abrahamic familys of religion.
more importantly show me the reasons you dont believe in god. so i know where to look.

When you say Abrahamic religions, you're over-generalizing as well. Judaism is VERY different from what Christianity did with it, Islam too.

If you're going to criticize others for lumping you in with the mainstream, DON'T DO IT YOURSELF.

You say you look for the truth in the real world, then how do you justify your belief in a God. You are not Christian or Jewish or Muslim, so I am guessing you are of an Eastern Religious persuasion? Buddhist, Hindu. Shinto??

There is a possible existence for God, but you have no proof of that and no one in history has been able to provide it. You stated earlier that evolution points to the existence of God because it is too perfect. That is a nice way of saying that you personally believe that something has to be guiding the process, but it doesn't constitute proof, it constitutes your belief.

Someone else might look at evolution and say that it causes millions of species to die and a God wouldn't let such horrendous things happen, therefor there can't be a God. Once again only a belief.

I don't believe there is a God because there has never been any proof that goes beyond emotions, or philosophy that he exists. If God is real and is responsible for creation, I would hope that he would care about its direction. Why stay hidden? Why not reveal himself directly in order to stop wars, disagreements and pain? If you are right and there is a God, isn't he a callous, cruel being that allows pain death and suffering to persist throughout his creation. Or is he a forgetful being that started life and has let it run its course untouched. Either way he isn't worth worshiping under those circumstances.

What makes you want to believe in a God that allows horrific pain and death?

An intelligent question in a forum where such are sometimes hard to find. It is entirely proper to look toward tangible evidence (and indeed, only such) to address the question of whether or not some sort of god exists. Since no one in the past few millenia has managed to produce any such evidence, it is a reasonable assumption (but not proof) that no such evidence exists. If we suppose that to be the case, it then follows that no theory of the existence or non-existence of god can have any consequences, or be of any value, in the real world. If you can actually find some evidence, you would be in line to win the Templeton Prize, which is worth something over a million dollars. As for evolution, it is a proven fact, but that does not exclude the possibility that some god set it up to happen.

First of all I have to say that I think it's wrong to change someones opinion on religion therefore I am not going to discuss why I do not believe but to answer your question about why some choose to "attack" as you put it, ancient books and religions is because that is the basis for that certain believe. Not all athiests think that everyone who talks about god is christian, that completely depends on the person.

When the ancient text is quoted as PROOF of God, that is when it is attacked. Would you prefer that we attack the person making the claims, such as they do to us? Would that be better?? To call them names, threaten them with non-existent eternal threats??

You ask that I show you the reasons why I dont beleive. I cannot open the top of my head to show you my brain and its processes. LOGIC dictates that the Christian God cannot and does not exist. If you want to know where to look, look directly inside the Bible - the proof is right there in its pages.

You can look at evolution any way you want. However, your personal experience/logic DOES NOT prove anything. You think evolution supports the existence of God. I think the opposite.

If you are talking about God as a creator, this is my thinking:
The Creator, whether he always existed or not, did not require a Creator to come into existence. This Creator must be very complex, but still did not need a Creator. So why would the rest of nature? This shows that a Creator is unnecessary and even impossible in some cases.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the main reason that I don't believe in any god is that there is not one single compelling reason for me to do so.
I have nothing against the idea of there actually being a god out there, but nothing has ever given me any indication that there is.

"more importantly show me the reasons you dont believe in god. so i know where to look."

The Bible is what has made me and many others non-believers. Someone above me said it best when he said something like: "There are characteristics of God that are incompatible."

Or like: God created everything, but not evil.

Most can disprove the abrahamic god based on the description of the god. With other gods it is more difficult. I like to go with the fact that gods are unnecessary..... Occam's razor does the rest.

Theists often claim that their gods are perfect beings; they describe gods, however, in contradictory and incoherent ways. Numerous characteristics are attributed to their gods, some of which are impossible and some combinations of which are impossible. As described, it's unlikely or impossible for these gods to exist. This means no god could possibly exist as theists claim.

Moreover, that's your faith. Faith is personal, not logic nor evidence
