Ok... Before you download a free software, ask yourself if the free software combines with spyware and viruses...
Since Apple.com is a trusted source, I am going to safely recommend Itunes to you, which is free.
Download Itunes 7, then drag and drop your Wav file songs into itunes, then right click the songs and select " Convert to MP3."

Go to download.com or cnet.com .. type mp3 converter and or wav file converter on the search box. This will take you to the page listing for what you are looking for. There are just a very few FREE downloads available.

Try ITunes.
First:
Open ITunes'
Click "edit" (upper right)
Click Preferences,
Click "Advance"
Click "Importing"
Click the box, that says" import using"
from the drop down list, select MP3 Encoder,
Click OK.
SECOND:
copy your wav. files to Itunes,
afterwards, right-click the wav. file,
from the drop down list, click "convert to MP3"
after conversion, you're gonna have 2 copies of that file. one is wav. and the other one is mp3. you can check which is which by righ-clicking the file, "get info", and click "summary". you can find out here what kind of file it is.

CDex 1.51 is good. Look on NoNags, lots of freeware there.

audacity is great, you have to get your hands on the free blade encoder dll.
