My father has dual - citizenship (Canada-US), does this mean that I (&my family) can obtain US citizenship?

We want to move south and I was told that I could get US citizenship...

I guess I should have been more specific. My father was born in the US, moved to Canada when he was app. 20 years old and has lived here (in Canada) ever since. He still has his US citizenship along with Canadian. Also my mother is a Canadian through & through.

you might be it's a little complicated. It all depends if your father was born in the US? How many years he has resided in the US? How old you were when he became a US citizen if he naturalized?

First, your father has to petition for you. The petition will be granted since you are the immediate relatives of a US citizen.

Then after five years of permanent residency, and if you do not commit any serious crimes, and you live in the US at least 6 months out of each of those five years, you can apply for US Citizenship. Just bring plenty of Molson and Moosehead.

You need to look up the "Nationality Charts" or call someone who knows what they are (ports of entry or the U.S. Consulate) to see if you can derive citizenship through your father - that's the easiest.

If you can't derive citizenship through your father then check to see if he can petition for you to receive permanent residence as his child. USCIS would have more details. Possible the Consulate too. I'm not sure if he can petition if he doesn't live in the U.S. though.

The U.S. does not allow dual citizenship's, your either loyal to the U.S. or some other country. IN this case your dad is breaking U.S. law. Can I have his name so that I may turn him in?
