I'm not for open borders, but isn't it interesting how many replies think that legalizing drugs (poison really) is the answer. There is a very real reason they were made illegal in the first place, to protect our children. But I guess if you don't have children, that isn't a concern for you. If you legalize drugs you need to get rid of the drinking age too or you just wind up with another government oversight that will turn into a taxpayer boondoggle.

Make drugs like marijuana, which has not been proven any deadlier than tobacco and alcohol (both of which are legal) available legally by prescription only to those 18 and older. That should make it much harder to get than it currently is, except for cancer patients who need the anti-nausea effects. This should help with the northern border.
I do support border walls, especially in areas with high rates of illegal immigration. Even a nice, thorny hedge would be useful in some areas. Border inspections are already regularly done at the Mexican border, and the Coast Guard patrols the Gulf of Mexico for illicit activity. However, to my knowledge they don't inspect every yacht that comes in from out of the country for drugs, since privacy concerns must be weighed against security concerns, and they don't want to discourage tourists.
Licensed companies who are permitted to ship across borders should have their license revoked if they are found to have any illegal activity of smuggling, either of drugs or illegal immigrants.

I'm not sure why supporting open borders requires me to have a plan for ending drug smuggling. I don't think smugglers care one way or another I don't think having a closed border is particularly stopping them.
I agree with a lot of the replies upstairs, legalizing drugs (or at least supplying them to addicts) would help a lot. It's not that Drugs are "good" and I want everyone doing them, it's that our Government, Border Patrol, and law enforcement agencies have more important things to do.
And it's not complicated. Open Borders does not mean that I don't think people crossing the border shouldn't be searched and if they are smuggling drugs, charged and tried. If you don't want drugs smuggled, track and arrest the smugglers. I have no quarrel with that.

No way will a world with open borders work. For those who say, that legalizing drugs is the answer, think about this, how would you like the serson driving the bus your on high? Or the dr. in charge of your health high ? The other drivers on the same road your on, are all high ? The person flying the plane your on ? What a nutty idea.

Who supports open borders? just because I dont agree with HB4437 and shallow anti illegal rhetoric doesnt mean that I think the border should be open for any asshole to just skip across. Who cares what the mythical open borders lobbyist thinks about drug smuggling. What do the feds think about it?

Legalize
There is a thing better than drug testing known as competecy testing basically when a bus driver starts their job they play a little videogame like thing If their agility is dimmed then they don't get to work or earn and are referred to their boss. realtime monitoring of agility on the part of drivers with computers is also possible
Alcohol as well as antihistamines have an effect with more than 20k casualties per year during the 20th century, a few moments of agility testing could be applied to all vehicles if that number went up with legal drugs thus creating a situation where concern about accidents created a technology that removed the lethality of drunk driving
legalize drugs
require competence
save 20k lives per year

F.Y.I. We lost the war on drugs long before we even began to fight it. So, thats not what I would consider a relevant sub topic of the main discussion. And yes. I do support open borders. This country was founded by immigrants.
