You need to disinfect your entire house- not just your carpet. Anywhere the sick dogs were and anywhere you went (unless you gowned up, wore boots and had a bleach footbath to walk in).
If it can't be bleached, you can disinfect with Lysol. I would be very cautious about bringing that young of a puppy home in your circumstance. Puppies should stay with mom until at least 8 weeks of age. Where are you getting these dogs from? A reputable breeder? A shelter?? Out of the newspaper? A good breeder and a shelter will have done the first distemper vaccines before selling or adopting them.
If you are getting them from a breeder, have you seen the living environment, are they eating a good food, are they being kept clean, etc.
Have you asked these questions to your vet?? You need to talk with them about a good vaccine plan, cleaning protocol, etc. BEFORE you get a new puppy

I would take the dog to get his shots and then take him back to the aunt's house until he gets his second set in about a week or two. (I can't remember which it is for the first set) Then after the 2nd set, take him back to the aunts house for about a week to make 100% certain it's in his system. Bleach does get rid of parvo, but it's not just in your carpet, it's wherever those dogs were--inside and outside. And it takes 7 years for it to leave. You can bleach your yard--your grass won't look pretty but it'll grow back fine. If it were me I would clean 2 times with the bleach and then again with the carpet cleaner. Better safe (and tired!) than sorry. Talk to your vet about possible alternatives to the bleaching of your yard, but that's the only thing I ever heard of. Good luck.

How long has it been? I would try the bleach but I would also wait a decent amount of time. And when you get a puppy get one that is older than 16 weeks and has had its vaccinations against Parvo.
NEW PRINCIPLES OF IMMUNOLOGY:
Dogs and cats immune systems mature fully at 6 months. If a modified live virus vaccine is given after 6 months of age, it produces immunity, which is good for the life of the pet (ie: canine distemper, parvo, feline distemper). If another MLV vaccine is given a year later, the antibodies from the first vaccine neutralize the antigens of the second vaccine and there is little or no effect. The titer is not "boosted" nor are more memory cells induced.
Not only are annual boosters for parvo and distemper unnecessary, they subject the pet to potential risks of allergic reactions and immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia. There is no scientific documentation to back up label claims for annual administration of MLV vaccines.
Puppies receive antibodies through their mother’s milk. This natural protection can last 8-14 weeks. Puppies & kittens should NOT be vaccinated at LESS than 8 weeks. Maternal immunity will neutralize the vaccine and little protection (0-38%) will be produced.
Vaccination at 6 weeks will, however, DELAY the timing of the first highly effective vaccine.
Vaccinations given 2 weeks apart SUPPRESS rather than stimulate the Immune system.
A series of vaccinations is given starting at 8 weeks and given 3-4 weeks apart up to 16 weeks of age.
Another vaccination given sometime after 6 months of age (usually at 1 year and 4 months will provide lifetime immunity.

The bleach should work, just don't forget to bleach EVERYTHING, even spray ur yard with bleach, that's where I messed up, I lost 3 dogs to Parvo in a matter of 6 months, bc we didn't spray the yard, and they got it from there.

no matter what especially on carpet and in dirt the parvo virus lingers for 7 years! if your going to be bringing more un-fully vaccinated dogs or puppies to you home, its time for new carpet! if your friends bring animals over, warn them because no matter how old an animal, if it hasnt been given the parvo-virus vacc. they are suseptible to catching it, its the worst illness a dog could get.

I am so sorry for your loss. Parvo virus is a powerful virus which can last in the environment for up to a year. Bleach is the only way to kill it, and you must bleach everything the dogs had contact with. Fortunately the Parvo vaccine is very very good, so if you get your new dog after he/she has had a full rotation of vaccines, then that will go a long way to preventing the disease. Good luck, and take care.

Parvo virus can live up to 6 months in an enviroment.Don't bring a new puppy into the house unless it is fully vaccinated.Vets sell a powder that you mix with water to kill parvo but even then it is not safe for an unvaccinated dog to go onto the premises.

That will work - Parvo lives up to 6 months in your home or Yard. be sure to pour bleach in your yard as well and you may want to get new grass. OR it may be wise to wait at least 6 months before bringing a new puppy to your home. Good Luck and sorry for your loss.
