Free EIN (Employer Identification Number) lookups:

http://www.freeerisa.com/

http://www.melissadata.com/Lookups/np.asp

http://www.guidestar.org/ (EIN lookups that tie to non-profits - just because they are non-profit doesn't mean they don't pay employees :) )

aside from that, you can check the EIN on it against others that your child received - it may be an accounting issue where some income was reported on a different form - I've personally had that happen in a case where the business switched payroll companies mid-year..)

if none of that helps, then call the chamber of commerce in your area - they may be able to point you toward a good resource.

The name and address of the company are printed on every W-2 I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them. That info is required by most software to efile.

If they completed the W-2 properly, box c has the employer's name and address. It may be the corporate office, but it should be enough to identify the company.

Not sure how trust worthy this site is, but you can look up an organization by its EIN which should be listed on the W-2
