All the answers given to this point are great. However if you aren't rich, maybe you could try the Great Smoky Mountains. Rent a mountain cabin and stay the week. There's no beach but you'll find so much to do you'll love it...

We went on a cruise. I don't like just sitting on a beach but there were many other things on the ship to do. You can also get off in any of the ports and have little adventures along the way. Usually you stop in 3 or 4 ports and I have found this a good way to learn about locations you would like to spend more time in without actually committing to a long stay.

Try a week on Majorca, Spain, and, then, touring the Spanish, and, particularly, the French Pyrenees

Try a Meditteranean cruise. You can do whatever kinds of things you feel everyday. Plus you get to experience many different cultures.

You can do both on Maui at the same time. Actually any of the islands would work.
