You either stand firm with him or you continue to lead him on. You claim you had a bad relationship with the ex. There shouldn't be a problem telling him to leave you alone. Oh boy, you should definitely put your foot down. Pull him aside and break it too him nicely of course.
Be honest with him - tell him that having him around makes you feel odd and that you can't handle him always being around and trying to kiss you.

How did the relationship end? It sounds like you're going to have to be upfront with him, and just tell him you're not together anymore, and you don't want him coming around.
